Fix: I-485 and I-130 validation issues resolved

Received user reports about two form issues affecting Form I-485 and Form I-130.

Problem

On Form I-485, users were being forced to enter additional dates of birth and A-Numbers even when they only had one date of birth and no A-Number.

On Form I-130, users could not enter the “Date From” for their current physical address when their mailing address was the same as their physical address.

Effect

For I-485, this blocked users from completing the form accurately. Applicants without another date of birth or A-Number had no valid way to proceed without entering unnecessary placeholder information.

For I-130, users could not provide the required start date for their current address in some address scenarios. This also meant the date could be missed when generating the completed PDF.

Solution

We updated the I-485 validation so optional second date of birth and second A-Number fields are no longer required when left blank. We also corrected the main A-Number validation so it only applies to the actual A-Number field when the user selects “Yes.”

We updated the I-130 address flow so the current physical address “Date From” field remains available after the user answers whether their mailing address is the same as their physical address. The generated PDF now also includes this date correctly.

Conclusion

Users can now complete both forms more naturally:

  • I-485 no longer asks for extra DOB or A-Number details when they do not apply.
  • I-130 now allows users to enter the current address start date even when mailing and physical addresses are the same.
